The Consumption of Sweet Foodstuffs Reduces the Concentration of Mind

Stating that there is no special diet for exam days, Head of the School of Health of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences stated that the consumption of sweet foodstuffs decreases the concentration of the mind.

In an interview with WEBDA, Dr. Mohammad Safarian stated that studying is a mental activity and no energy is consumed and reiterated that there is no need to eat food while studying. Also, some people think their blood sugar drops and that they should consume sweet foodstuffs while studying, which is a wrong belief and getting accustomed to consuming sweet food will cause extra weight and obesity.

This faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences reiterated that sweet foodstuffs will lead to decreased concentration by increasing blood concentration as well as brain excitement.

Dr. Safarian pointed out that those who walk while studying and read aloud and have some kind of physical activity will definitely consume energy and feel hungry while studying.

Head of the School of Health of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences stated that in order for increased peace of mind and concentration during exam days, it is suggested that the consumption of protein food compounds be increased and starchy foods be decreased. 

Stating that one of the meals ignored during exam days to reduce stress is breakfast, he reiterated that students should eat breakfast and consume bread, cheese, walnut, and low-sugar tea, as well as a bit of butter and little honey, jam and egg, in case they don’t have extra weight.

Dr. Safarian added that in the morning hours, concentration decreases due to feeling hungry and that it consuming too much sweet breakfast is not suggested.

He stated that the consumption of foods containing vitamin B such as vegetables, different types of bread, and grains like rice is really effective for boosted memory and concentration of mind. In addition, due to the good fat compounds in them and creating the feeling of hunger, snacks like fresh raw or hardly-roasted nuts are recommended.

Pointing to the fact that in addition to appropriate nutrition, doing exercise is of great significance during the exam days, he reiterated that doing exercise during exam days is not only a waste of time but also increases blood circulation and improves brain metabolism and learning capabilities.
